Get Involved in Cognitive Research
Research experience is a crucial for continuing a career in psychology. Whether you’re an undergraduate planning to continue on to graduate school or a graduate student who wants to pursue a thesis, hands-on experience in a psychology research lab can be invaluable. It also gives you an opportunity to get better acquainted with the faculty and other motivated students.
Here you can find more information about how to get involved in the Applied Visual Cognition Lab at TAMU-CC.

Undergraduate Research Assistant
Undergraduate research assistant (URA) is the equivalent of the “entry level” position in the lab.
Duties typically include
-
Attend lab meetings,
-
Complete CITI training,
-
Administer experimental sessions,
-
Review project-related literature.
You can work on a voluntary basis to gain experience or as part of a directed independent study (contact Dr. Scarince for information about DIS requirements).
We are not currently looking for research assistants. Check back at the beginning of the Spring 2025 semester.
Undergraduate Investigator
Motivated undergraduates with some lab experience and a research question in mind may work with Dr. Scarince to plan, implement, and interpret the results of a student-led research project.

Undergraduate investigators are typically students who have completed two semesters of URA work or are part of another student research program (such as the McNair Scholars Program or Honors Program).

Graduate Research Assistant
TAMUCC’s graduate program is a terminal masters clinical psychology program; however, students are still encouraged to be involved in on-going research, especially if they plan to continue their studies at the doctoral level.

Graduate research Assistants (GRAs) are more involved with project development and managing logistics, particularly for projects related to their studies. GRAs also work closely with other faculty and researchers on collaborative projects.
Contact Dr. Scarince to learn about potential GRA opportunities or thesis projects.
